## Description

Sacramento Youth Symphony (SYS) is a renowned brand with a rich history of over 65 years in educating and nurturing young musicians in the Sacramento region. With humble beginnings as a 55-member youth orchestra in 1956, SYS has now grown to a membership of over 400 talented musicians from all over the Sacramento Valley. SYS offers a range of orchestral ensembles, from beginner to advanced, and showcases their musical prowess in more than 20 concerts each year. Under the guidance of experienced music educators and conductors, SYS aims to become the leading community for talent development and music appreciation among youth in the region. Their programs cater to intermediate and advanced players, as well as youth musicians with at least one year of experience. Students benefit from the expertise of dedicated music educators, delve into music history and theory, and perform challenging orchestral works. They also have the opportunity to embark on local or international tours, depending on their ensemble. SYS believes in the transformative power of music education and its cross-cutting benefits. By participating in SYS, students gain not only technical proficiency but also develop valuable life skills such as self-expression, discipline, teamwork, and problem-solving abilities. Research by neuroscientists indicates that playing music engages all areas of the brain, contributing to enhanced cognitive abilities, memory, and executive function. Regardless of background or experience, SYS strives to cultivate musical talent, foster a love for music, promote unity, and nurture the capacity for lifelong success. Membership in the Sacramento Youth Symphony offers a profound and enriching experience, empowering students to become well-rounded individuals with impressive academic resumes. Many alumni continue their musical journey alongside successful non-musical careers, while some go on to perform with prestigious professional orchestras like the New York Philharmonic and the San Francisco Symphony. Beyond musical achievements, SYS fosters a supportive community where like-minded students forge lasting friendships and create cherished memories.
