About
Description
Safe Place for Youth (SPY) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to empowering young people experiencing homelessness in Los Angeles. Founded in 2011 by Alison Hurst and a group of dedicated volunteers, SPY began by offering hot food, clothing, and socks to homeless youth in Venice Beach from their cars. Since then, SPY has grown significantly, expanding its services, programs, and partnerships.
SPY's mission is to provide lasting, community-driven solutions that address racial and social inequity. They prioritize low barriers for entry, harm-reduction, trauma-informed care, and creating a safe, supportive environment for young people. Their comprehensive range of programs includes street outreach, access center services, case management, health and wellness, and education and employment programs.
With the support of board members, donors, volunteers, and partner organizations, SPY has become a professional organization with a skilled staff of nearly 80 employees. They are actively involved in policy discussions and work to end youth homelessness by continuously expanding their programs and maintaining their leadership role with coalition groups. To support their impactful work, you can become a monthly donor, join their mailing list, volunteer your time, or make in-kind donations.
SPY is committed to transforming the lives of homeless youth and creating a brighter future for them
