## Description

Saimaan ympäristö- ja tiedekasvatuksen tuki ry is an association that continues the environmental and science education work associated with Saimaarium, a former lake-nature exhibition in Lappeenranta, Finland. Located on the shore of Lake Saimaa, Saimaarium opened its exhibition and event spaces in 2020 and offered an engaging, educational introduction to the region’s freshwater environment. Its permanent exhibition featured the Saimaa ringed seal, lake wildlife, aquariums with fish and other aquatic species, interactive quizzes and games, immersive nature imagery, and information about research and conservation. Visitors could also explore changing exhibitions combining art and science, and take part in guided visits, workshops, school trips, celebrations and group events. The exhibition closed in 2021 after the city did not renew the venue’s lease, and the displays have since been dismantled. The association’s ongoing activities include environmental and science education projects, public events and research-based lake restoration initiatives, such as work exploring wooden structures as a method for improving lake habitats.
