Description
Welcome to SANCCOB, the Southern African Foundation for the Conservation of Coastal Birds. As a registered non-profit organization, our primary objective is to reverse the decline of seabird populations, with a special focus on endangered species like the African penguin. At SANCCOB, we rescue, rehabilitate, and release ill, injured, abandoned, and oiled seabirds.
We offer a 24/7 rescue service for sick and injured seabirds, respond to oil spill disasters, and treat an average of 2,500 injured, sick, and oiled seabirds annually. Additionally, we are the only organization in the world to artificially incubate and hatch wild-origin African penguin eggs, hand-rearing the chicks for release back into the wild. In addition to our rescue and rehabilitation efforts, SANCCOB is actively involved in education, training, and research initiatives to increase our understanding of seabird species' behavior, diseases, and other factors impacting their long-term survival.
You can support us by donating your time, talent, items or cash to make a difference in the survival of the endangered African penguin and other seabirds in distress. Join us in our mission to save southern Africa's seabirds and contribute to a healthier marine environment
