GFAS (Global Federation of Animal Sanctuaries) is a renowned organization dedicated to promoting and recognizing excellence in animal care at sanctuaries. They offer accreditation and verification for various types of sanctuaries, including those providing lifetime care for animals, transition and rescue centers, and rehabilitation centers for wildlife. The GFAS Carole Noon Award, established in 2009, honors individuals who embody their philosophy of vision, dedication, and excellence in animal care.

This award pays tribute to Carole Noon, a fearless sanctuary pioneer and advocate for chimpanzees. Additionally, GFAS presents Outstanding Sanctuary Awards to organizations that demonstrate exceptional humane and responsible animal care, professionalism, ethics, organizational sustainability, public engagement, and leadership in the sanctuary field. These awards are bestowed in four categories: Equine Sanctuary, Farmed Animal Sanctuary, Wildlife Sanctuary, and International Sanctuary.
