## Description

The Sanctuary of Our Lady of Remedies is a religious and cultural landmark in Lamego, Portugal, set atop Mount Santo Estêvão and closely associated with the city’s landscape and identity. Its history spans centuries: an earlier chapel dedicated to Saint Stephen stood on the site in 1361, while construction of the present sanctuary began in 1750. The complex is renowned for its church, delicate Baroque towers and monumental staircase, whose construction began in 1777 and continued into the twentieth century. A notable feature is the Pátio dos Reis, with its imposing Fountain of the Giants, atlantes, dolphins and Marian symbols. The sanctuary’s grounds also include a wooded park with mature trees, fountains and grottoes, offering space for reflection, rest and leisure for pilgrims and other visitors. Through its website, the sanctuary shares information about its history and architecture, the Brotherhood, and local traditions and celebrations. It also publishes short articles and historical notes, helping visitors discover the site and its place in Lamego’s heritage.
