Dwyer, a respected funeral director, merged his home with Saunders', forming the Saunders-Dwyer Home For Funerals. Understanding the need for expansion, a new facility was opened in Mattapoisett in 1996. Richard's sons, Richard T. Saunders, Jr. Saunders, joined the family business as licensed funeral directors in 1984 and 1990, respectively.
