## Description

SAVEMEDCOASTS is a European civil protection initiative focused on helping Mediterranean communities prepare for sea level rise and the impacts of climate change. Its work supports the European Commission’s Prevention Priority program and addresses risks to people, infrastructure, and valuable coastal environments. The project brings together scientific expertise, civil protection organizations, local communities, and other stakeholders to improve risk assessment, planning, and public awareness.

SAVEMEDCOASTS develops methods for multi-hazard assessments and supports the improvement of databases covering the Mediterranean basin, with particular attention to high-value areas at or below one metre above sea level. Its activities include establishing test sites and producing high-resolution information for civil protection planning. The project also examines possible changes in marine flooding and coastline position through scenarios extending to 2100, drawing on digital terrain models, land subsidence rates, and local sea level estimates.

To share findings, SAVEMEDCOASTS provides publications, maps, presentations, educational materials, news, and photo and video resources. It also promotes cooperation and community engagement to help inform prevention measures and policy decisions.
