IUCN Save Our Species is a pivotal initiative dedicated to the urgent conservation of wildlife, plants, and fungi at risk of extinction. By focusing on species categorized as Vulnerable, Endangered, and Critically Endangered according to the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species™, this program strategically allocates resources to frontline conservation organizations globally. Leveraging local expertise, IUCN Save Our Species implements comprehensive projects that address critical threats to biodiversity through a balanced approach that incorporates Species, Habitat, and People.

The program emphasizes collaborative conservation, engaging local communities to foster alternative livelihoods that promote wildlife protection. By combining science-based strategies with community involvement, IUCN delivers impactful actions that not only safeguard endangered species but also improve the living conditions of people who rely on these ecosystems. Operating from IUCN’s headquarters in Switzerland, the initiative collaborates with a vast network of partners, ensuring that conservation efforts are effective, sustainable, and beneficial for both nature and local populations.
