SBCTC Washington, also known as the Washington State Board for Community & Technical Colleges, is an advocate and coordinator for the state's community and technical college system. With a nine-member governor-appointed board, SBCTC ensures the smooth functioning of 34 public community and technical colleges in Washington. At SBCTC, approximately 262,000 students receive training for the workforce, prepare for university transfer, develop basic math and English skills, and pursue continuing education.
The colleges under SBCTC contribute to the state's economic vitality and quality of life by producing skilled graduates, fostering entrepreneurship, and enhancing employability. SBCTC focuses on three mission areas: Basic Education for Adults, Workforce Education, and Academic Transfer. These mission areas cover a wide range of programs, including GED preparation, English as a Second Language courses, vocational training for direct entry into careers, and academic programs preparing students for transfer to universities.
