## Description

SBM Grameen – the Rural Clean India Mission – is a transformative initiative launched by the Government of India on October 2, 2014. Designed to achieve an open defecation-free nation by promoting comprehensive sanitation, this program has mobilized millions, resulting in the construction of over 100 million household toilets across rural areas. The mission's first phase (2014-2019) achieved remarkable milestones, including the declaration of more than 600,000 villages as open defecation-free by 2019, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6.2.

The ongoing second phase (2019-2025) aims to sustain and enhance hygiene levels through solid and liquid waste management. The mission invests a significant budget of approximately 1.40 lakh crore INR, focusing on improving rural sanitation and developing ODF Plus villages. Initiatives such as the Green Leaf Rating promote sustainable practices in waste management, water conservation, and community involvement, fostering a cleaner and greener environment for all. Through these efforts, SBM Grameen has significantly improved public health and sanitation awareness, actively engaging communities in maintaining cleanliness.
