## Description

Scalars Publishing produces instructional and reference materials that support learning, teaching, and transcribing in Unified English Braille (UEB). Its books are intended for braille students, teachers, transcribers, and others who work with braille.

The publisher’s central text, Ashcroft’s Programmed Instruction: Unified English Braille, uses a learn-by-doing approach, with lessons arranged in manageable steps and supported by practice, review, and immediate feedback. A companion reader offers embossed-braille exercises coordinated with the book’s first ten chapters, combining individual passages and narratives to help learners build reading skills progressively.

Scalars also publishes The Braille Enthusiast’s Dictionary, a 578-page reference designed to clarify which UEB contractions are used in particular words during transcription. It is intended for use alongside The Rules of Unified English Braille 2013, and an embossed-braille edition is available through the National Braille Association. For instructors, the accompanying manual introduces the code conventions covered in each unit and supplies practice materials, student writing samples, tests with answer keys, and guidance for organizing and enriching a course.
