## Description

The Sickle Cell Disease Registries and Control Programme (SCDRCP) is a research and public empowerment programme based in Eldoret, Kenya. Launched in 2019 after receiving relevant institutional and national ethical approvals, it coordinates efforts to improve sickle cell disease prevention, screening and care. Its work follows the World Health Organization’s primary, secondary and tertiary intervention strategies, bringing prevention, early identification and clinical management together.

SCDRCP raises public awareness through educational materials, brochures and continuing medical education for both community members and healthcare professionals. It offers screening services and genetic counselling to help individuals and couples understand inheritance, carrier status, reproductive choices and disease management. The programme also works to strengthen existing health services, establish and support specialized sickle cell clinics, and develop national registries for sickle cell disease, organizations and people living with the condition, as well as haemoglobin variants. Registry data supports research and evidence-based care. SCDRCP also conducts community outreach, including awareness activities and haemoglobin variant testing, and provides educational resources and a knowledge quiz through its website.
