## Description

The Centre Schistosomiasis and Parasitology (CSP) is a Cameroon-based research centre focused on schistosomiasis and soil-transmitted helminthiasis. For more than three decades, it has supported research and disease control, working with Cameroon’s National Programme for the Control of Schistosomiasis and Soil-Transmitted Helminthiasis and international research partners. Its epidemiological evidence helps inform disease surveillance, control strategies and public health policy.

CSP combines field investigations with laboratory diagnostics, including microscopy and molecular biology, and provides training for young researchers. Its work covers human, animal and environmental aspects of disease transmission. The centre leads SHIS-CAM, an eight-year programme running from 2023 to 2031 with support from a Wellcome Discovery Award. In collaboration with partners in France and the United Kingdom, the programme investigates schistosome hybridization, maps infection in people and livestock, and follows schoolchildren receiving twice-yearly treatment. CSP also contributes to national control efforts involving prevalence mapping, preventive chemotherapy and monitoring of field interventions.
