SEAHEC (Southeast Arizona Health Education Center) is a brand that is dedicated to improving border and migrant health through advocacy, research, and action. They have a strong focus on the most vulnerable populations, including rural and border communities, migrants, and farmworkers. With the utilization and support of community health workers (CHWs), SEAHEC reaches out to these communities and collaborates with families and individuals to address their health needs. Established in 1985, SEAHEC was the first AHEC (Area Health Education Center) in Arizona, with a mission to recruit, train, and retain culturally competent health professionals. Over the years, they have grown and established partnerships to work on a variety of health initiatives. In 2008, Gail Emrick became the Executive Director and continues to lead SEAHEC. Their values revolve around passion, innovation, inclusivity, respectful accountability, and programs that are community and partner-driven. They believe in the power of change and strive to address health disparities, particularly in the Arizona Sonora region. SEAHEC offers health education, COVID-19 vaccine education, service learning opportunities, and more to make a positive impact on the communities they serve.
