SEIU Local 49 is dedicated to serving Oregon unions in Oregon and southwest Washington, including major cities like Portland, Vancouver, Corvallis, Eugene, and Albany, as well as other towns and cities throughout the Northwest. They specialize in managing contracts for various sectors, including healthcare (such as Kaiser), airport workers, security workers, janitorial workers, laundry workers, textile workers, and other service employees. The Executive Board, which is the highest leadership body of the Union, plays a crucial role in inspiring and motivating members into action and building a strong leadership team within their worksites.

Led by President Meg Niemi, the Executive Board sets the vision and program of the Union and focuses on representation, member involvement, bargaining, organizing, building community, and political strength. With over 20 years of experience in labor leadership, Meg has successfully negotiated industry-leading contracts that prioritize good jobs, fair wages, and job security for Union members. Under her leadership, SEIU Local 49 has grown to over 15,000 members
