## Description

The Alliance for Self-Directed Education (ASDE) is a nonprofit organization working to normalize and legitimize Self-Directed Education, with the goal of making it accessible to all young people who seek it. Self-Directed Education is learning that grows from a learner’s chosen activities and life experiences, supporting curiosity, playfulness, and other natural ways of learning.

ASDE helps families, educators, communities, and advocates explore and practice this approach. Its website introduces the principles of SDE, explains why people choose it, and offers guidance on putting it into practice. Visitors can find frequently asked questions, information about unschooling laws, resources for starting an SDE center, a map, and links to communities and advocacy support.

The organization also builds connections through membership, forums, events, cohorts, and other opportunities to gather. Its publishing and media work includes Tipping Points magazine and press, alongside news, stories, and professional services. ASDE invites individuals and organizations to join the movement, stay informed through its newsletter, and support its work through donations.
