## Description

SEMA, the Syrian Expatriate Medical Association, is a humanitarian, medical-relief nonprofit established in 2011 by Syrian doctors, health professionals and expatriates responding to rising injuries and urgent needs. It describes itself as a national organization independent of political systems, parties and ideologies, and says assistance is provided without discrimination based on race, sex, color, religion, sect, denomination or language. SEMA has obtained official recognition and registration in several countries, including France, Britain, Italy and Turkey, and continues to seek recognition elsewhere.

The organization works to provide high-quality health care and emergency support in Syria and other crisis settings. Its programs span health protection, nutrition and community health, education, and relief. Services and initiatives featured on its website include medical centers, surgeries, laboratory testing, prescriptions, diagnostic imaging, mobile clinics, referrals, medical supplies and support for newborns, mothers and children. SEMA also conducts protection activities, including child protection, psychological support and responses to gender-based violence, alongside food and clothing assistance.
