## Description

sensors.AFRICA is a pioneering pan-African citizen science initiative dedicated to monitoring and providing actionable insights on environmental pollution, specifically focusing on air, water, and sound quality. Leveraging open-source technology, including low-cost air quality sensors, the project aims to empower citizens and local NGOs with real-time, hyper-local data essential for understanding and combatting the dire health impacts of pollution. With air pollution responsible for millions of premature deaths annually, sensors.AFRICA is committed to enhancing awareness and intervention capabilities with accurate data on air quality, primarily particulate matter.

In addition to air monitoring, the initiative addresses critical water safety issues, utilizing advanced digital microscopy to detect waterborne pathogens, enabling communities to respond swiftly to outbreaks of diseases like cholera. Furthermore, the StormWatch program employs innovative forecasting algorithms to predict storms over Africa's Great Lakes, significantly improving safety for the fishing communities. Overall, sensors.AFRICA fosters a collaborative approach to environmental health, ensuring communities have the tools and knowledge needed to protect themselves and their environments.
