## Description

SERNEC (SouthEast Regional Network of Expertise and Collections) is a collaborative platform representing 233 herbaria across 14 southeastern states in the USA. Dedicated to enhancing botanical research and public awareness, SERNEC provides access to a rich repository of herbarium specimen images and metadata spanning over 200 years. This resource is instrumental in studies relating to biodiversity, evolution, ecology, and systematics, making it a vital tool for researchers and conservationists alike.

In partnership with organizations like SEINet and funded by the National Science Foundation, SERNEC aims to digitize an additional four million specimens, ensuring comprehensive documentation of the region's plant life. The portal also offers volunteer opportunities, engaging the public through expeditions and interactive activities to enhance georeferencing efforts. Users are encouraged to explore educational resources and reach out for customized research support, showcasing SERNEC’s commitment to fostering a deeper understanding of the southeastern botanical landscape.
