AWS, which stands for Asian Women's Shelter, was established in 1988 to respond to the pressing and unmet needs of survivors of domestic violence and human trafficking. It caters to a diverse range of individuals, particularly immigrant or refugee women, children, LGBTQ+/GNB individuals, and youth. AWS believes in welcoming survivors of all genders, ages, races, nationalities, language communities, abilities, and income levels.
The organization's mission is to eradicate domestic violence by advocating for the social, economic, and political self-determination of women and all survivors of violence and oppression. AWS is committed to providing violence-free homes and addresses the cultural and language requirements of immigrant, refugee, and U. S.
-born Asian and Arab women and their children. AWS offers a comprehensive range of services and programs, including crisis lines, emergency shelters, transitional housing, community engagement and violence prevention initiatives, training and education programs, advocacy for systems and policies, and cultural change efforts.
