## Description

The Society of Government Meeting Professionals (SGMP) is a U.S. membership organization dedicated exclusively to government meetings. Founded in 1981, it supports professionals working to plan efficient, cost-effective meetings that comply with applicable state and federal laws. SGMP is not a government agency and receives no direct federal or state funding. Its nearly 1,500 members participate through chapters and satellite chapters across the country.

SGMP serves government and contract meeting planners, as well as suppliers such as hotels, speakers, audiovisual companies, decorators, and convention and visitors bureaus. Members can access professional development, industry resources, news, networking, and events. Education offerings include webinars, online learning, live classes, and the Certified Government Meeting Professional (CGMP) program, a designation specifically for professionals whose work is governed by federal regulations.

The organization also hosts an annual National Education Conference with learning sessions, keynote speakers, a tradeshow, and networking. Scholarships are available to help meeting planners attend. Through education, resources, and professional connections, SGMP aims to strengthen expertise and promote high-quality government meetings.
