## Description

Shady Rest Country Club is a public golf and recreation facility in Scotch Plains, New Jersey, with a history dating to 1920. It opened as the first African American Golf and Country Club in the United States and was home to John Matthew Shippen Jr., recognized as the first American-born African American golf professional. The club has also hosted jazz and blues legends, including Ella Fitzgerald and Duke Ellington.

Golfers can play the nine-hole course, which measures 2,247 yards from the longest tees and is rated par 33. The facility also offers an 18-hole miniature golf course featuring a waterfall, streams, and stepping ponds. Visitors can book tee times online, explore golf instruction through the Golf Academy, and inquire about tournaments, outings, memberships, and rates. A pro shop, clubhouse, and pavilion are also on the property. Shady Rest provides an eClub for subscribers to receive golf promotions and special offers.
