SHALVA is the oldest independent, Jewish domestic abuse agency in the United States. Committed to breaking the cycle of abuse, SHALVA provides counseling, supportive services, and community education. Since 1986, they have been dedicated to supporting survivors and educating the community about intimate partner abuse.

As an Illinois not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization, SHALVA is certified by the State of Illinois to provide domestic violence counseling. Their therapists are qualified Illinois-Certified Domestic Violence Professionals (ICDVP) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professionals (CCTP). SHALVA understands and addresses the unique religious and cultural challenges faced by Jewish families while also meeting the universal needs of abuse survivors.

They provide training to rabbis, police officers, medical professionals, teachers, mental health professionals, and community groups, ensuring a safe and sensitive response to the needs of domestic abuse survivors. SHALVA actively participates in national and international dialogues, advocating for Jewish families experiencing domestic violence. With affiliations with various organizations, such as The Network, Family Violence & Community Collaboration, and the Illinois Coalition Against Domestic Violence, SHALVA works to raise awareness, build a strong community, and promote healthy relationships
