## Description

The Shawnigan Basin Society is a community-based organization established in 2012 to protect the long-term health and safety of the Shawnigan Lake Community watershed and the drinking water it provides. Its work also supports environmental stewardship across the wider South Cowichan region, combining conservation, preservation and recreation with community engagement.

The Society runs and supports initiatives focused on watershed monitoring, research, education and habitat protection. These include the Coldwater Eurasian watermilfoil Removal Program, salmon and fish-habitat monitoring, invasive plant management, native plant enhancement, and riparian and foreshore protection. It also offers information and planning assistance related to shoreline health and stream protection, and encourages residents to observe and report environmental concerns.

Community members can take part through monthly meetings, events, volunteer teams, membership, donations and fundraising campaigns. Volunteer opportunities include monitoring waterways, supporting outreach, and contributing to restoration and research projects. The Society also shares reports and local resources to help residents understand watershed issues and take part in practical stewardship.
