## Description

Shine: Play It Forward is a 501(c)(3) charitable organization established by the family of Tom Shine to honor his legacy of service, teaching, coaching, and community leadership. Tom, a retired educator, coach, and devoted competitor, died in 2021 after a seven-year battle with cancer. His strength, integrity, and positive spirit continue to inspire the organization’s work.

Its mission is to support academic, athletic, and leadership development in young people. The organization awards one-time scholarships to high school seniors who demonstrate character, leadership, service, and a commitment to making a positive difference in their schools, sports, and communities. It also creates opportunities for connection and mentorship through community initiatives, including basketball experiences and gatherings that celebrate friendship and service.

Fundraising activities include Dining for a Cause, featuring meals prepared by Brenda Shine, and the Tom Shine Golf Classic. Donations help fund the organization’s mission and are described as tax-deductible. Rooted in Tom’s connections to local schools and colleges, Shine: Play It Forward encourages people to give back and use their talents to benefit others.
