## Description

De Befriade 1945 is a historical and educational project by the Swedish Holocaust Memorial Association (SHMA), focused on the humanitarian effort Sweden undertook at the end of the Second World War. Drawing on archival documents and the first-person accounts of Holocaust survivors, the project traces individual experiences during the war, their journeys to Sweden aboard the White Boats and White Buses, and what followed after their arrival.

The site presents the life stories of seven people: Halina Neujahr, Lola Preiss, Vera Krémer, Jakob Sylman, Viola Horvath, Alice Klein, and the Jakubowitz sisters. Visitors can explore these accounts alongside supporting materials organized under topics such as the care process, documents, personal histories, and modes of transport. The project also provides information about its background, image sources, and sponsors. By combining personal testimony with historical records, De Befriade 1945 offers a focused account of survivors’ journeys and Sweden’s relief efforts, helping preserve and share this history with a wider audience.
