## Description

SIBiLS, the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics Literature Services, provides tools for searching and retrieving information from biological and biomedical literature. Its services support life-science research and help curation teams review publications about genes, gene products, and other biomedical topics. Users can search semantically enriched documents with keywords, standardized identifiers, or mapped biomedical concepts drawn from reference vocabularies.

SIBiLS covers four frequently updated collections: MEDLINE, PubMed Central (PMC), Plazi treatments, and PMC supplementary files. Its REST APIs offer document retrieval, customizable search, and natural-language question answering. The Fetch API returns parsed content and annotations in JSON or BioC formats, while the search API supports flexible Lucene queries and ranked results. The Question Answering API uses indexed documents and a BERT language model to return scored answers with supporting snippets.

SIBiLS also provides resources such as SPARQL access, vocabularies, and collection tools. Freely accessible APIs are designed to integrate with literature-curation workflows and serve both internal curation needs and a wider community of life scientists.
