## Description

SIDDC is the Staten Island Developmental Disabilities Council, established in 1969 to support individuals with developmental disabilities and their families. They work tirelessly to ensure the best quality of life for people with special needs through advocacy and providing relevant information. SIDDC is composed of self-advocates, parents/families, friends, and service providers. They hold monthly meetings with presentations from guest speakers to keep members informed about current issues. The council consists of committees comprised of parents, self-advocates, advocates, and knowledgeable professionals in the field. SIDDC effectively communicates the needs of families to public and elected officials through various media outlets, legislative information exchanges, and an annual Community Breakfast. They organize numerous events throughout the year, including a Family Resource and Transition Fair, Educational forums, and Adult Transitioning forums, aligning with the mission of supporting their members. With SIDDC, individuals with developmental disabilities have a strong support system advocating for their needs and rights.
