## Description

Silent Spring Institute is a mission-driven, independent scientific research organization focused on uncovering environmental causes of breast cancer and preventing disease by reducing exposure to harmful chemicals. Its work examines how people encounter toxic substances in the places they live, work, and play, and how those exposures may affect health. The institute develops new knowledge about cancer-causing chemicals and uses research to support safer environments and products.

A central part of its approach is community-engaged research, alongside efforts to identify chemicals linked to breast cancer and understand their routes of exposure. The institute also shares practical resources, including tips for healthier living and information about breast cancer and the environment. Its findings help strengthen policies designed to protect consumers from toxic chemicals and promote prevention as a national research priority. Recent topics highlighted by the organization include pesticide ingredients that may evade safety testing and research on home water filters and PFAS levels in the body.
