## Description

SIMIT, the Italian Society of Infectious and Tropical Diseases, is a scientific and professional organisation founded in 2001 through the merger of two Italian societies representing university-based research and hospital infectious disease care. It brings together the academic and clinical sides of the specialty, with scientific activity and research serving as a shared foundation. SIMIT supports professionals working in infectious and tropical diseases through research projects, study groups, educational programmes, events and regional sections across Italy. Its website provides clinical guidelines, position papers, protocols, research resources and recommendations on topics including antimicrobial resistance, HIV, dengue and COVID-19. The society also shares news and information for members, offers membership services, and provides a career centre. Through initiatives, conferences and opportunities for discussion, SIMIT promotes the exchange of knowledge and the development of evidence-informed approaches to infection prevention, diagnosis and management. Its work connects healthcare professionals and researchers, while communicating relevant updates and guidance to the wider public.
