## Description

Single Mothers by Choice (SMC) is an empowering organization founded in 1981 by Jane Mattes, LCSW, aimed at supporting unpartnered women who choose to become mothers. With over 40,000 members across the US, Canada, and Europe, SMC offers invaluable resources, peer support, and a vibrant online community. Members benefit from active forums where they can discuss topics such as donor insemination, parenting strategies, and the emotional aspects of single motherhood. The organization provides a wealth of information through newsletters, local chapters, and specialized cohort threads for those trying to conceive. Under the leadership of Kathleen Curtin, who became Executive Director in July 2023, SMC continues to expand its outreach and support services. The organization also emphasizes the importance of sharing experiences and knowledge to navigate the unique challenges and joys of single motherhood by choice. Through media engagements and community discussions, SMC is redefining the narrative around single-parent families, showcasing their growing acceptance and success in society.
