## Description

The Italian Society for Optics and Photonics (SIOF) is Italy’s national branch of the European Optical Society. Founded in 1991, it promotes research in optics and photonics and encourages collaboration and the exchange of knowledge across Italy. Its activities include organizing scientific events, schools, conferences, and workshops, with particular attention to training young scientists. SIOF also supports specialist communities through working groups focused on biosensors, plasmonics and nano-optics, microscopy, and VISPEC.

The society shares news about research, events, prizes, conferences, and professional opportunities through its newsletter and website. It publicizes initiatives in fields such as biophotonics, bioelectronics, biomechanics, integrated photonics, sensing, navigation, and laser technologies, including events organized with international partners. Membership offers reduced fees for SIOF events and selected partner activities, free registration as a full individual member of EOS, and reduced Italian Physical Society membership fees. Members also receive a fortnightly newsletter. Through these services and connections, SIOF brings together researchers, students, and professionals working in optics and photonics.
