## Description

The San Juan Basin Archaeological Society (SJBAS) is a Colorado nonprofit organization dedicated to exploring and preserving the archaeological, cultural, and historical heritage of the Four Corners region and the broader American Southwest. Founded in 1979, it brings together people of varied ages, backgrounds, and levels of archaeological experience who share an interest in the region’s past. SJBAS promotes public awareness and the preservation of archaeological and cultural resources through monthly lectures, educational programs, and related activities. Its presentations are open to anyone interested in archaeology and Southwest history, while guided field trips are available to members. The society also provides opportunities for members to connect, volunteer, and contribute ideas for future programs and trips. Members receive the Moki Messenger, a monthly newsletter featuring society activities and topics of archaeological, cultural, and historical interest. SJBAS supports the John W. Sanders Internship and Education Fund, which provides ongoing internships for Fort Lewis College students at the Center of Southwest Studies.
