## Description

Sjögren’s UK, the working name of the British Sjögren’s Syndrome Association (BSSA), is a registered charity founded in 1986 to raise awareness of Sjögren’s and support research into its causes and treatment. This autoimmune condition can cause symptoms including dry eyes, dry mouth, arthritis and fatigue; its cause remains unknown, and there is currently no cure. As a self-help organisation with around 2,300 members, Sjögren’s UK provides information and mutual support to people affected by the condition, as well as their families and supporters.

Its services include a national members’ helpline, regional support groups, regular meetings, an online forum and a “make a friend” scheme. The charity also shares educational literature and a quarterly magazine, publishes news and patient resources, and holds an annual medical meeting featuring talks from consultants and other experts. Members can access additional content through the organisation’s website. Sjögren’s UK also awards an annual research grant and supports research and patient engagement.
