## Description

Pleasant Valley Wetland Heritage Park is a community-based conservation and education initiative associated with the BC Small Wetlands Association, a registered charity. Working with community partners, the Association connects Secwépemc traditional knowledge with western science through cultural and ecological learning, with an emphasis on inclusive opportunities for Indigenous and non-Indigenous youth. Its work has showcased wetland biodiversity, conservation, natural infrastructure and nature-based responses to climate change.

Projects at the Park have included wetland monitoring, native tree and shrub planting, a Children’s Grove, and three mini forests demonstrating the Miyawaki pocket-forest approach. An edible forest garden combines fruit trees, berry bushes, herbs and vegetables, with harvests shared by the community and wildlife. The Association has also offered youth volunteering and learning activities, public outreach, interpretive information and wetland workshops. These initiatives encouraged hands-on conservation and sharing knowledge of local ecosystems and Secwépemc culture. The Park’s facilities included a viewing platform, covered pavilion, washroom and parking.
