## Description

Smith Memorial Playground & Playhouse is a nonprofit organization in East Fairmount Park, Philadelphia, dedicated to providing and promoting unstructured free play for children. Founded through a bequest from Richard and Sarah Smith and dedicated to the memory of their son, Stanfield, the playground has welcomed generations of families since 1899.

Visitors can explore a 6.5-acre outdoor playground with areas for climbing, swinging, spinning, and nature-based discovery, as well as the celebrated Ann Newman Giant Wooden Slide. The historic Playhouse spans three floors of interactive experiences, including the Stephen Starr Indoor Playground, Smithville play-stallations, and the Playbrary Imaginative Playspace. The organization also offers community programs, school partnerships, summer camp, and events such as the Kidchella Music Festival and seasonal celebrations. Special exhibits invite children to create, imagine, and learn through play.

Smith provides visitor information and hosts birthday parties, weddings, and social and corporate rentals. Families and community members can also support its work through donations, volunteering, sponsorships, and fundraising events.
