## Description

The Sistema de Monitoreo Territorial (SMT) is an initiative of the Organización Nacional Indígena de Colombia (ONIC) that brings information about Indigenous peoples’ territories together in one system. It supports access to territorial knowledge through digital resources including a map viewer, mobile app, maps, wiki, and informational services. Its subject areas include the environment, administration, human rights, Indigenous economies, territory, the 2018 census, risk management, COVID-19, and Indigenous land records. The platform also shares news, bulletins, documentation, multimedia, and updates on emergency response and community initiatives.

Alongside its information and mapping tools, SMT describes practical work carried out with Indigenous communities and their authorities. In 2025, ONIC’s territorial monitoring system accompanied the Embera Chamí community of Kerakar in work focused on territorial governance and its Plan de Vida. Activities included designing and implementing community water-supply and irrigation works, identifying water sources and environmental protection areas, conducting conservation workshops, and supporting food security through native seeds and training in bio-inputs.
