About
Description
Swiss National Bank (SNB) is the independent central bank responsible for conducting monetary policy in Switzerland. With a focus on ensuring price stability while considering economic developments, SNB creates an environment conducive to economic growth. It operates with two headquarters in Berne and Zurich, along with a branch office in Singapore.
Additionally, there are representative offices in Basel, Geneva, Lausanne, Lugano, Lucerne, and St Gallen, as well as 13 agencies operated by cantonal banks, serving the country's money supply. The SNB's activities and decisions are guided by the National Bank Act and are designed to serve the interests of Switzerland as a whole. As per the act, SNB sets aside provisions to maintain necessary currency reserves for monetary policy.
After deducting expenses, a dividend not exceeding six percent of the share capital is paid from the net profit, with one-third going to the Confederation and two-thirds to the cantons. The current annual distribution to the Confederation and cantons is CHF 1 billion. SNB also provides various publications, including the Annual Report, which offers insights into its operations and history
