## Description

SOBER, the Brazilian Society of Rural Economics, Administration and Sociology, is a nonprofit civil association founded in 1959. It promotes the development and exchange of knowledge in rural social sciences and related fields, including economics, administration and sociology. The society supports research and education, and seeks to inform public policies for sustainable development and decision-making in the private sector.

SOBER connects academic institutions with public- and private-sector organizations through its annual national congresses and regional meetings. It also publishes the quarterly Review of Economics and Rural Sociology (RESR) and shares research through its website, member communications and social media. At its congresses, the society recognizes outstanding doctoral theses, master’s dissertations, undergraduate research and articles published in RESR.

Membership offers access to an academic and research network, opportunities to submit work, and discounts on SOBER events and some partner events. Members may also benefit from publication opportunities, professional connections, and channels for sharing technical work. Headquartered in Brasília, SOBER serves researchers and professionals working across Brazil’s rural social sciences.
