## Description

The Chilean Astronomical Society (SOCHIAS) is a nonprofit organization representing Chile’s community of astronomers before national and international bodies. Its purpose is to advance astronomy by supporting research, education, and public outreach, while safeguarding the interests and rights of astronomers in Chile. Rather than selling commercial products, SOCHIAS provides professional, educational, and community resources for its members and the wider public. Its activities include annual meetings, working groups focused on light pollution and inclusion and gender, and initiatives such as Astronomy Day and astronomy and astronautics Olympiads. The society also shares educational materials, articles, books, audiovisual productions, newsletters, and information about astronomy studies, universities, research centers, observatories, and employment opportunities. For researchers, it publishes notices about competitive funding calls, observing-time access, international agreements, and professional opportunities. SOCHIAS additionally promotes projects that broaden participation in astronomy and organizes events and communications to connect the Chilean astronomy community. Based in Santiago, it offers membership services and information through its website.
