## Description

Founded in November 2001, Sociedade do Sol is a nonprofit organization focused on developing social technologies for solar and renewable energy, alongside environmental education programs. Its work centers on practical, low-impact solutions that help communities and organizations generate energy at reduced cost. The organization’s guiding goal is to make solar heating accessible, reflected in its development of the ASBC, or Low-Cost Solar Water Heater.

Sociedade do Sol offers projects and resources in solar thermal energy, photovoltaics, and water reuse, as well as manuals, talks, workshops, and community solar-building initiatives. Its training includes a course on sustainable solutions, which teaches participants to assess household water and electricity use and identify ways to save natural and financial resources. Another course covers the ASBC, including energy consumption and costs, system sizing, assembly, installation, and operation. Through these activities, the organization promotes practical approaches to conserving energy, water, gas, and lighting, and supports broader adoption of renewable energy technologies.
