## Description

Sogetsu is a school of ikebana, the Japanese art of flower arrangement, founded in 1927 by its first headmaster, Sofu Teshigahara. Its philosophy encourages creative freedom rather than adherence to fixed forms, treating each arrangement as a distinctive expression shaped by nature and the individual. Open to people of different ages and nationalities, Sogetsu offers a continuing path of study for beginners and experienced practitioners alike.

The organization provides introductory experiences, lessons at its headquarters and classes through a nationwide network of teaching locations. Learners can also access online classes and anytime SOGETSU, a video subscription service for people interested in studying the art. Beyond instruction, Sogetsu presents exhibitions, events, performances and cultural exchange projects, bringing plant-based artistic expression into homes and public spaces. Its activities also include the Sogetsu Kaikan and related cultural facilities, a seasonal magazine featuring creative work, and a shop. Approaching its centennial in 2027, Sogetsu continues to explore the possibilities of ikebana through education, artistic practice and community engagement.
