## Description

Solpera is a full-stack astrobiology lab based in Hobart, Tasmania, developing ways to recognise and characterise life in extreme environments. Its research explores how living surfaces respond to ultraviolet light, testing whether their changes over time can reveal fundamental features of life without relying on assumptions about cells or metabolism. The company builds the instruments, designs experiments and runs the computing needed to investigate this approach.

Solpera’s products include Spectrophage, a laboratory ultraviolet reflectance prototype, and Atlas, a sensor and compute backpack designed for legged robots working in the field. Its instruments incorporate onboard AI to help draft and run experiments, interpret responses as measurements arrive, and inform what to measure next. This approach supports research in remote locations where experiments need to be conducted and analysed on site.

Solpera develops systems for demanding conditions, including cold, dryness, radiation and isolation, with work intended to inform future lunar and Mars missions.
