## Description

**Somerset Voices Oral History Archive**

Somerset Voices Oral History Archive is a dedicated resource that aims to preserve and promote the rich history of Somerset through personal narratives and oral testimonies. Initiated by local historian Ann Heeley and supported by contributions from individuals and local history groups, the archive features interviews that capture the essence of life in Somerset, particularly focusing on the Somerset Levels and the Glastonbury area.

In 2005, the project received a Heritage Lottery Fund grant, which facilitated significant enhancements, including the conservation of recordings into digital formats, making them accessible at the Somerset Rural Life Museum and the Somerset Record Office. The archive also offers full transcripts of the interviews at multiple locations, alongside an online catalogue detailing each recording.

Additionally, educational resources, such as a Second World War resource pack for primary schools and a traveling exhibition, expand the teaching potential of Somerset’s oral history. The archive invites anyone interested in the region’s heritage to explore and engage with its stories.
