## Description

Songs for Sam, now known as the Sam Roddy Scholarship, is a community initiative established to honour the memory of Sam Roddy, a talented young member of the Tumut community who died in 2006. The organisation aims to continue his legacy by encouraging young people to pursue their potential and passions, while promoting inclusion and support for those growing up in regional communities.

Its central offering is an annual $1,000 scholarship for young people aged 15 to 25 who live in the Snowy Valleys Council local government area. The funding is intended to help recipients develop an interest or goal they care about, with agreed expenses supported through invoices or receipts. Applicants under 18 need parental or guardian consent, and recipients agree to provide progress updates and uphold the organisation’s values.

Songs for Sam also welcomes community involvement from performers, sponsors and supporters. Donations and sponsorship help sustain the scholarship and invest in the future of local young people.
