## Description

The Sourdough Raft Race Association organizes a community river event in Edmonton, bringing teams together to build and race their own rafts on the North Saskatchewan River. The event begins after a Sourdough Pancake breakfast, with rafts launching from Terwillegar Park and finishing near the Edmonton Riverboat dock at Rafter’s Landing. A crane is provided to help teams load their rafts, and a barbecue is offered to participants after the race. Spectators can watch from the river valley banks.

The association supports entrants with online entry and waiver forms, raft-building information, event details, and assistance for individuals and teams. Its awards include prize money for charities chosen by winning teams, plaques for categories such as Best First Time Entry and Most Innovative, and the Titanic Award for a craft that sustains the most damage or sinks. The 2026 event has been cancelled because wet conditions made vehicle access to city parks unsuitable. The association is planning ahead, with August 22, 2027, set as a tentative date.
