Founded in 1867, Southern Education Foundation has been a leader in education for over 150 years. As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, we are dedicated to advancing equitable education policies and practices that uplift low-income students and students of color in the southern states. Our work encompasses various areas, including research and policy, government affairs and advocacy, leadership development, and strategic initiatives.

Through extensive research, we develop evidence-based solutions for policymakers and disseminate them to education leaders. We also analyze promising ideas, amplify them, and drive systemic change in K-12 and post-secondary education. Our efforts have supported over 200 school districts and education equity organizations since 2017 and have contributed over 50 publications on education equity in the last decade.

Furthermore, Southern Education Foundation cultivates and empowers over 280 leaders who are prepared to tackle equity challenges within the education system. We believe in creating a more just and equitable education system, and we urge support for early childhood education and other initiatives necessary for the future of the South.
