## Description

Southern Lakes Sanctuary is a registered charity bringing conservation groups, communities and businesses together to protect and restore biodiversity across the Queenstown Lakes District of Aotearoa New Zealand. Its work spans approximately 850,000 hectares of mountains, valleys, rivers and lakes, with the goal of creating a connected, resilient landscape where native species can flourish.

The Sanctuary coordinates landscape-scale conservation projects, including predator suppression and habitat restoration, and supports the recovery of threatened wildlife. Its projects include work with mohua, whio, takahē, wild wētā, pekapeka and other taonga species. The organisation also uses monitoring and research, including acoustic recording and field observations, to better understand wildlife and guide conservation efforts.

Southern Lakes Sanctuary offers ways for people and organisations to take part: individuals can find local groups, volunteer, set backyard traps or donate, while businesses and other partners can support conservation initiatives. The Sanctuary shares project updates, species information, reports and stories to keep the community informed about progress and opportunities to help.
