# SOWEGA AHEC - **Website:** - **Primary alias:** `sowega-ahec.org` ## Description SOWEGA-AHEC is a nonprofit organization established in 1991 to strengthen the healthcare workforce and support better healthcare access across 38 counties in southwest Georgia. Its mission is to recruit, train, and retain healthcare professionals by connecting students to health careers, professionals to communities, and communities to better health. For aspiring health professionals, SOWEGA-AHEC offers career exploration resources, presentations and camps, health career videos and manuals, the Pathway to Medical School program, and AHEC Scholars opportunities. It also helps students pursue clinical training through placement coordination and housing and travel assistance, and supports clinical preceptors and nurse reentry education. To help retain the region’s workforce, the organization provides conferences, webinars, continuing education, and on-demand CME and CE programs. SOWEGA-AHEC works with students, educators, healthcare professionals, and community partners to build a larger, better-prepared, and more representative workforce for the region.
